Overview
The Back in Stock Notifications feature allows customers to join a waitlist for out-of-stock products and receive an email when inventory becomes available.
Enable the Feature
- Navigate to Settings > Email & Notifications.
- Set Back in Stock Notification to Yes.
- Click Save.
A Back in Stock Threshold field will appear.
Threshold
The threshold determines the minimum inventory quantity required before notifications can be sent.
- Default value: 1
- Notifications become available when inventory reaches or exceeds the configured threshold.
Customer Experience
When a product is out of stock, the storefront displays Sold Out – Notify Me! instead of Sold Out.
Customers can select this option to join the waitlist for that product.
Sending Notifications
When an administrator updates inventory and the quantity meets the configured threshold:
- A notification dialog appears showing the number of customers on the waitlist.
- Select Send Notification to email all waiting customers.
Customize the Email Template
Administrators can edit the notification email at:
My Site > Message Templates > Back In Stock
Validation
To confirm the feature is working:
- Enable Back in Stock Notifications.
- Join the waitlist for an out-of-stock product.
- Update inventory above the threshold.
- Verify the notification prompt appears.
- Send the notification and confirm the email is received.
