Barcode Scanning & Weight-Embedded Barcode Setup Guide

Accessing Barcode Settings

To configure a product barcode:

  1. Go to Products

  2. Select All Products

  3. Click into the desired product

  4. Navigate to Settings

  5. Locate the Barcode field

This is where all barcode configurations are entered.

1. Standard Barcodes (Packaged or Fixed-Price Products)

Use a standard barcode when:

  • The product has a fixed price

  • The product is not sold by weight

  • The price does not change per unit

How to Configure

  • Enter the full barcode number directly into the Barcode field.

  • Save the product.

When scanned, the system will match the exact barcode and add the product at its preset price.

Example

If a packaged snack has a barcode of:

012345678905

Enter the full 012345678905 into the Barcode field.

2. Weight-Embedded Barcodes (Variable Weight Products)

Weight-embedded barcodes are used for products sold by weight (e.g., meat, produce, bulk items). These barcodes contain both the product ID and the weight within the barcode itself.

Required Barcode Format Rules

Weight-embedded barcodes must:

  • Start with the number 2

  • Contain a 5-digit product ID

  • Follow the standard weight-embedded structure

Format Structure

2 + 5-digit Product ID + Weight Value

Example product ID:

212345
  • 2 → Identifies this as a weight-embedded barcode

  • 12345 → Product ID

Working Example

Barcode:

212345003000

Breakdown:

  • 2 → Weight-embedded indicator

  • 12345 → Product ID

  • 003000 → Weight value

This example represents:

3.000 lbs

When scanned:

  • The system identifies the product using the 5-digit ID.

  • The system calculates the total price based on the embedded weight and the product’s price per pound.

Important Notes

  • The product’s barcode field should contain the 6-digit base (2 + 5-digit ID).

  • Do not enter the full 12-digit weight barcode into the product settings.

  • The scale generating the barcode must be properly configured to follow the required format.
